Villard emigrated to the U.S. in and was employed by German-American newspapers and later by leading American dailies.

His father was a prominent civil servant, later appointed to the Supreme Court of Bavaria.   Henry Serrano Villard, a former ambassador who retired in and turned to writing books, died on Sunday in Los Angeles.
